*PLUS means to include county residents who are not considered part of the Western Slope, but are part of the Grand Junction VA Medical Center’s catchment area.

On behalf of Joining Community Forces (JCF), representing over 49 organizations, we would like to submit the following proposal for a One Stop Shop dedicated to serving military and their families on the Western Slope.

Project Description

In every forum where the topic is how best can our community meet the needs of our military service members, the need for a One Stop Shop is expressed. The concept of a One Stop Shop where military and their families can make one stop, get their individual situations assessed and then connect them to service providers who can potentially meet their needs is exactly what the mission of the Military & Families Resource Center is determined to accomplish. In addition, the resource center will be dedicated to providing the following:

Educational opportunities

Cultivating and sustaining community partnerships that will work on behalf of service members
Raising community awareness of service members’ needs, challenges, etc.
Fostering a sense of community pride
Encouraging re-investment into the Veteran/service member community

Short Term Goals

Secure one time funding for the renovation of the proposed location site- 428 28 Road, Grand Junction, CO
Renovate the proposed location site
Identify, recruit and network organizations that will commit to providing identified key areas of service to the service member community
Rally community support for the creation of the Military & Families Resource Center

Long Term Goals

Establish an identifiable and respected Military & Families Resource Center on the Western Slope that offers on-site services and resources to in need service members and their families.
Increase JCF membership
Expand facility use by stakeholders
If need be, secure funding to acquire a van that will provide transportation daily to service members and their families to service providers that reside outside of the Military & Families Resource Center
If need be, secure funding to expand building to meet community needs

The Military & Families Resource Center will meet the needs of veterans and their families by connecting them to local military and/or community resources.
