Challenge: Biking with her service dog
Former U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer, AnnMarie used to race bikes and competed in triathlons, but stopped riding after she got her service dog, Leigh Ann, who is now always by her side. Her goal is to get back on her bike, but she needs a solution that would allow Leigh Ann to accompany her safely.
Former U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer, AnnMarie started competing in bike races and social bike events for decades until she received her service dog, Leigh Ann. Challenges related to her ability to take Leigh Ann on bike rides has lead to no longer bike riding. Several years have passed and the benefits of bike riding for fitness, spending time outdoors, and social engagement are just a few things AnnMarie misses about biking. Her goal is to get back on her bike, but she needs a solution that would allow Leigh Ann to accompany her safely.
As AnnMarie explains it, “When my Dr. recommended I get a service dog, I wasn't sure that it would be a good fit for me. I never had pets growing up and didn't know anything about dogs. At the point when I got Leigh Ann, I was very limited on being willing to leave my house or activities/environments I would engage in. Having Leigh Ann has helped me be more involved with my family and increased my ability and willingness to do things outside of my house. Having a safe solution for Leigh Ann to be with me on bike rides will help reduce my anxiety helping to make biking enjoyable again.”
