Military kids create memories at baseball clinic in Colorado

Major League Baseball and the Colorado Rockies honored Challenge America and military families during All-Star Week 2021.

On July 12, 2021, 20 military kids in the Challenge America community took part in a baseball clinic and skills drills at PLAY BALL PARK in the Colorado Convention Center.

“We are grateful to Major League Baseball and the Colorado Rockies for offering these military kids and their families an opportunity to attend this amazing event and play ball,” said Challenge America Executive Director Dallas Blaney. “Moments like these are precious for military families, and this event will certainly create the kinds of memories these families will cherish for a lifetime.”

MLB and the Rockies presented an All-Star Legacy donation to Challenge America for $50,000 to support the organization’s art therapy programs for Veterans and their families. The donation provides workshops, classes, and retreats for Veterans and their families that use the healing power of creative arts to cope with injuries and psychological wounds.

Challenge America is thankful for the families that joined us for the All-Star Experience and for MLB and the Rockies for their generous support of Challenge America and its mission.

Makers for Veterans 2021 started on a high note with the final event in a year-long collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs to develop innovative solutions to the most urgent non-clinical challenges facing essential workers on the frontlines of COVID-19. This project produced 50 new products, including a low-cost telehealth case developed by Team HermTac, a portable physical therapy system developed by Team Wareology, and an exciting new wellness monitoring system developed by Team Okaya. These solutions and others keep our frontline workers safe while improving their ability to meet the needs of our most vulnerable friends and neighbors. In recognition of our efforts, the Small Business Administration awarded Challenge America the Lab-to-Market Ecosystem Responder Prize.
