On the Road Again: Exploring The Great Outdoors Through Song!
Author: Julianna Cooper, Challenge America Music Therapist
There are few better ways to explore and enjoy the Great Outdoors than traveling to see the world around us. This doesn’t have to be a cross country expedition (although it certainly can be if you’d like!) Whether a road trip across the nation, flight to a new destination, walk through the forest, bike ride on a local trail, or simply taking a stroll through your neighborhood - making a point to travel outside the bounds of your typical day-to-day scenery is in itself a celebration of the outdoor world and its splendor. 🌳
In the month of April, we shared a bit about using music to “meet you where you are” through matching your mood or energy level, like a friend who hears and empathizes with you. Last month, we explored the use of music to celebrate; choosing music as a positive reminder of milestones and new seasons.
This month, we’re continuing the theme: music can be an incredible tool to help us cultivate motivation, energy, excitement, and anticipation for a new experience. ✨
Creating a motivational playlist, (in this example, a playlist for a fun trip or outdoor experience) is a way to think about the aspects of the experience you are looking forward to, hone in on specific details that you want to enjoy, and simply help stir up excitement and appreciation for the event, as you listen to beautiful music and lyrics that speak to your soul.
Take note of what music, instruments, tempos, and songs make you feel motivated, excited, and joyful, and work on creating a playlist– either by writing them down or compiling them on a music platform.
We’ve put together a playlist that is inspired by a trip into the Great Outdoors - full of songs celebrating the splendor of nature, the excitement of traveling the world, and the incredible beauty at our fingertips as we step outside.
I’m not sure about you, but after listening to this playlist I’m feeling full of inspiration and ready to plan an excursion to the mountains! 🏔
