Created by Veterans, for Veterans, the Challenge America Veteran Arts Community (CAVARTS) is the result of a rich collaboration between Challenge America and The HeartStrings Foundation. CAVARTS represents the culmination of a five year commitment to build an inclusive community that brings together Veterans of various backgrounds who support one another as they connect, learn, and grow through the arts.
In addition to Challenge America programming opportunities, further virtual programming and content are offered through the support of our Community Partner organizations, including Guitars 4 Vets, The Writer’s Garret, Veteran podcasters, and Tandy Leather.

May, 2026 CAVARTS Spotlight Feature #2: Theresa Adams
A United States Navy Veteran and former Air Traffic Controller, Theresa brings a lifetime of service, family tradition, and personal reflection to her creative work. Now living among the mountains—a striking contrast to her years stationed in the Southwest desert—she captures moments of memory and meaning through photography.
Her piece, Smokey Mountains, reflects a deep connection to past experiences and the power of art to refocus the mind on “better things, good times, and better places.” Through her creative journey, Theresa continues to challenge herself, build community, and find inspiration in both nature and shared experiences.
May, 2026 CAVARTS Spotlight Feature #1: Kimberly Guidry
Kimberly, a proud Air Force Veteran and children’s author, is transforming a lifetime of military experiences into stories filled with heart, hope, and healing. In her debut book, SweetPea's Chore Challenge: A Bugland Adventure, she reimagines the challenges of growing up in a military family through a lens of courage, positivity, and faith.
After a 27-year career in service, Kimberly discovered a renewed sense of purpose through art and writing—creative outlets that have helped her process her journey, find peace, and inspire others. Her work is more than storytelling; it’s a testament to resilience, self-discovery, and the power of turning life’s hardships into something beautiful for future generations.

This CAVARTS Spotlight highlights a U.S. Army Veteran who served as an Intelligence Analyst from 2001 to 2005 and now uses art as a powerful outlet for healing and expression. His oil painting, Give Love, is inspired by his daughter and reflects a message of hope, warmth, and emotional connection.
Rooted in family and personal growth, his creative journey helps navigate life’s challenges while strengthening meaningful bonds. Through CAVARTS, he continues to share his story and remind others of the impact art can have on healing and connection.
