Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Author: Julianna Cooper, Challenge America Program Coordinator
Today we celebrate with gratitude and pride, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - a man who served this country by boldly dreaming of a better future for all people.
Celebrating what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 95th birthday is an opportunity to remember his legacy, look back on our history, and consciously work to continue the work he began; creating a just and safe environment for all in this country.
During a visit to Cornell College, Dr. King said the following:
“I am convinced that men hate each other because they fear each other. They fear each other because they don’t know each other, and they don’t know each other because they don’t communicate with each other, and they don’t communicate with each other because they are separated from each other.”
May we go forward today remembering his legacy and pondering this wisdom - taking a moment to pause and connect with each other in order that we may communicate, understand, and regard each other with honor instead of fear.
