Rainy Day Jams: Creating A Playlist For April Showers
Author: Julianna Cooper, Challenge America Program Coordinator
Many of us have been experiencing an upswing of rainy days - “April Showers,” if you will! Some of us find them cozy, some of us feel cooped up, and all of us have different ways of spending them.
Today, I’d like to share a bit about incorporating music into your rainy day, whether you’re a rainy day lover or someone who can’t wait for the sun to reappear!🌦
Listening to a song that matches your mood or energy level can be comforting or calming - in a way, it can feel like having a friend who hears and empathizes with you.
Have you ever noticed that when you are happy, a sad song can be irritating? And when you are sad, a happy song can be irritating? Similarly, if you are feeling tired or lethargic, a high energy song can feel overstimulating or overwhelming.
“Happy” songs, or higher energy tunes can also be used for motivation if you are in a bright mood or are feeling upbeat. Lower energy, slower, or “sad” songs can comfort and help us to acknowledge our feelings or state of energy so that we can move into a more desired mood state or level of energy.
Today, I’d like to encourage you to create a playlist of songs for a rainy day! 🌧
If you’d like to match the cozy, moody feelings of a rainy day to help you appreciate the slowness it can bring, try choosing slower and more contemplative songs to “meet” the energy of the day where it’s at. If you like using a rainy day to be productive, or you prefer listening to music that will help energize and motivate you, try faster, more energetic, upbeat tunes to elevate your mood and energy level!
And remember - there is no “right” or “wrong” way to listen to music… you get to take control here.
Whatever music you choose, just make sure it’s music you enjoy and that makes you feel good! 🌈
You absolutely don’t have to choose “rain themed” music for your playlist, but in honor of April’s Showers, we thought we’d share a few songs about rain, rainy days, and rainbows for your listening pleasure. We hope you enjoy listening to a few of these tunes - some classic, and some that are more niche! ☔️
