Army Veteran Ken Busby Jr. is a songwriter, storyteller, husband, father of seven, and lifelong believer in the power of “three chords and the truth.” Drawing inspiration from family, faith, and lived experience, Ken crafts songs filled with honesty, emotion, and resilience.
Whether reflecting on sacrifice and grace in Unworthy or sharing the raw realities of personal hardship in My Personal Hell, his music serves as both a creative outlet and a source of healing. When he’s not writing songs, Ken enjoys life on the farm with his high school sweetheart, finding stories in the everyday moments that shape who we are.

Meaning Behind Piece #2:
I have been going through a tough time. Losing custody of my kids. My wife's daughters are moving into their dad's house. It seemed like with everything that happened a little positive it led to a bigger punch to the gut. I thought that I had died when I had my Stroke which is when it all started. So I thought to myself that I had died and gone to hell and that this life I was living was my eternal punishment. That there was no way out even through suicide I would just come right back to it. It was a really dark place and the reason this song is the way it is. I am sure many others are going through the same thing. I hope this song helps them know they are not alone.

What inspires you to create art?:
My family, especially my wife and her unending love for me. She has inspired so many of my songs. I am truly a lucky and blessed man. I enjoy making people smile and hearing how my music connects with them.
What part of your life has benefited the most from your creative pursuits?:
My mental health and ability to recognize and acknowledge the love that I am shown. I am able to put things into my songs and after, I get a huge release of pressure - like a weight has been lifted off. It is a huge blessing.
Is it important for you to challenge yourself in your art? Tell us why or why not!:
Yes, I feel like you need to be challenged to grow and everyone wants to grow as an artist and not be stagnant.
What is your process or ritual to get your creativity flowing?:
Typically the inspiration just hits and I begin to write. I don't really have a process. The mood strikes, I write. I don't force it, I let it come. It usually comes in waves. I will write 3 or 4 songs then it will be a few months before I write again. I just let it be natural!
Yes, growth is important. You want to grow, get better and touch more people with your art.
What does CAVARTS mean to you?:
It means everything! I have a place where I can come and share my talents and learn new things. I wanted to write songs but didn't know how and they have given me the tools and confidence to do it.
Our monthly theme is Veterans & Their Art, but Ken submitted this when we were celebrating The Business of Art and Sunny DIY Days Here’s what Ken had planned:
- The Business of Art: Focusing on the business side as I try to get my songs recorded. This requires me to focus on contracts and the not so fun side of songwriting but a necessary part. I hope to bring what I learn to the community so others can learn from me.
- Sunny DIY Days: I am sure my wife will have plenty of spring time diy projects for me to do around the farm. There is no end to the work.
