Guitars 4 Vets is proud to bring THIS IS BLUEGRASS to the CAVARTS community!
Danny Smith, a G4V Guitar Instructor for the CAVARTS cyber chapter, will be giving "live" tutorials on some choice standard Bluegrass songs.
This event's tutorial will feature "Old Joe Clark":
The folk song "Old Joe Clark" doesn't have a single "written" date, as it's a traditional tune that evolved orally, but it’s origins trace to the 19th century, possibly based on a real Kentucky mountaineer (born 1839, murdered 1885), with early printings appearing around 1900 and an early version published in 1918. The tune was popular with soldiers by World War I, and its lyrics were spread through oral tradition, with many variations, making it a quintessential American folk ballad. There are about 90 stanzas in various versions of the song. The original tune is based on an A major scale in the Mixolydian mode, but moreover has definite hints of a complete blues scale, namely, the flatted 3rd and 5th.
The event will be recorded. Danny will give a detailed lesson for this song with an outline that will be available under Modules and More in the new "THIS IS BLUEGRASS" section of CAVARTS. Danny's going to be using the guitar chords G-D-F in standard tuning and the solo in G Major scale in the Mixolydian mode.
Beginners, this is an excellent chance to advanced your guitar playing and knowledge!
